*trips in coughing because of the dust and swatting at cobwebs*
Hello everyone! Let's see... what to say... oh yeah!
I'm REALLY new to actual LARPing, but not the idea. My dad is a long time NERO and (former) SOLAR player, so yeah, I kinda grew up on it. I've only been to a grand total of two events in which I actually played (back three years ago when I was 14). I wish I could've done more, but my mom thinks roleplaying is "evil." Since I love and respect my mom, I will wait until I am no longer "under her roof" to take up NERO.
I'm currently about to enter my senior year of high school, then it's off to college! I grew up in Kennesaw, so it's only natural for me to want to go to KSU, right? So yep, that's where I'll be in a year. ^^ And yes... I'll be looking for a job that I can keep while there.
Anyway... I recognized Ishmael and maybe Sybil... in the list of names... is there any reason I should? Maybe I'm tripping at this late hour. @___@
My character was Quatre, an Elven earth templar. You probably don't know her (I mean, two events... really). *shrug* How about my step-mom's character Orquidea, a Gypsy earth templar...
Er, let me make this easy....
Anybody know Allan or Empe? They're my parents! xD
Okay, to wrap this babbling up... I hope to revive this community with my inquisitiveness. Seeing as how I can't actually play for another year, could you guys just keep posting and letting this poor little girl hear all the awesome stories? *puppy eyes* If not posting here... at least somebody that'll listen to my constant babbling and many questions. ^^
By the way... what happened? I was looking on the site to see if any events are scheduled for 2007. Do you not plan that far ahead? Did I miss something? (obvious question... of course I did...)

Another Season, another idea
Wow, quiet community lately - so time to liven it up as the season approaches. I've got some general questions some of you may have the answers to:
1) At A.H. Stephens, are tents and tentpegs allowed, or must any tents on-site be of the pegless variety?
2) How many of you intend on attending Nero-Atl events this year?
3) Can any of you get me in touch with Sybil?
Rest assured that the gypsies are returning this year, and with a vengeance. I look foreward to seeing the lot of ya'll about, and the roving Gypsy Caravan will be at your doorstep as soon as we figure out what the year's schedule looks like.
Catch y'all on the battlefield!

A Question for the Contact-LARPers:
(Crossposted to the 'LARP-support' community, and the overall LARPing community.)
What's your stance on Ultralights and Superlight weapons for contact LARPing? Fair/Unfair? Safe/Unsafe? Do they promote speedsticking or shotgunning? Add or detract from the experience?
I'm curious to see how others in the community feel. I know that I, for one, would love to see ultralight and superlight weapons removed from the games as a whole; I feel that their lack of appreciable weight, smaller size, and increased speed actually make them more dangerous than similar PVC or CPVC core 'stock' weapons. Additionally, I feel that they actually detract from the experience - swordfighting becomes something less than cinematic and, in fact, usually devolves into mad flailing while people yell out incomprehensible taglines.
Which is the point.
Generally, I find, too, that ultralights are usually insisted upon by the more.. uh.. nebulous members of the community (prove me wrong!), while others have adopted their use simply to stay compedative. Would all of our systems be better off for removing them?
I'd say so. But I'm curious about hearing your opinions. Sound off!

So, NERO Atlanta....what's up?
Hey everyone, I just found this(hopefully not as deserted as it looks) LJ community and, as I am going to be going to my first NERO event Memorial Day, thought I'd drop by and say hello. So, hello and stuff. Current Mood: hopeful

NPC Casting call....
Anyone out there willing to grab some spotlight? We need fresh and new NPCs for small to middle length NPC roles for the rest of this season. I can promise you some interesting parts, perhaps some continuing intrigue, and the joys of having a part in some major mojo to come! Anyone interested please drop me a line at email@example.com...thanks!

So, tell me...did you have a good time?
The weather didn't exactly cooperate, but we tried to put on a good event. I am curious, though, how did it go from the player perspective? The feedback forms are wonderful, but its limited on its questions, so please post here so I can get some more in-depth answers to the above question...
Cheers to the players of this insane campaign, without you, we wouldn't have a job...

An Oddly Appropriate Song
The latest thing to hit LJ, since the all-important personality test, is the posting of music lyrics that pertain to one in a particular way. With that in mind, even though it's a country song; this has been stuck in my head and if I can get it stuck in everyone else's head, I'll be right proud of myself!( I Don't Have To Be Me ('Til Monday), Steve AzarCollapse ) Current Mood: amused

I almost didn't come to this event.. and am I ever glad that I did. I hadn't been that scared since my first year. Plus getting to see all the out of towners was great too. Had some cool RP stuff happen, half of the nobles I respected permed, my right ear won't stop bleeding and I'm deaf, I have formal now, got to kill some dark riders, added some creatures to my list of bottle monsters (mind flayer, steel golem, possessed statue, crazed drax-wannabe), found some cool items, lost some cool items, and had an all around good time.
(Zerr) Current Mood: exhausted
Uh, did Bane and Rozzi perm this weekend? I am not sure, in my Fryzbee heart of hearts, if that makes me happy or sad.
Since no one else has yet...
NERO Atlanta, this last weekend, in review:
I had a ball. :) Merintha was a joy, but the Lady Magus and Seneca were the nobles that made my event, admittedly. :) As always, for me, the joy wasn't necessarily in the moments of plot, but the moments of interaction with other players - those who were shocked by or enervated in my Gypsy's wandering rambles, and those who spoke of more serious things...
Gate-crashing the instructions on chivalry and law was the biggest risk, for me, in the event - one never knows how nobility will react to the Gypsy - but I suppose poking fun at the nobles /and/ the ones asking stupid questions of them proved that anyone playing the role of Fool can get away with it if he treats /everyone/ equally under his ridicule. Wonder of there's a lesson for the nobility there?
Katie D - thy presence made my game complete; Portia and Pyotr have a /really/ wierd bond, and I haven't figured /that/ out yet - but the revelations made by both sides in the darkest moments and in the next day when all was different, and the night before when the cards were thrown... wow. What /is/ it with you and making my characters honest to themselves? Kathy, (is it C or K? I never have asked) - your Stone Elf Guildmistress Person is fast becoming one of the Gaje my poor gypsy persona can respect; *grins* We shall have to taunt nobles together more often.
So - verdict? A very, very good event for me - as I posted to the NERO-ATL message boards - one filled with every emotion I cared about, and one that actually changed my character as opposed to flowed around him.
On the flip side? I heard a few complaints, though I've none myself - complaints about how violent the game was, overhearing someone griping about a 'lack of Roleplaying' and blaming staff - I do have an answer to those folks, and a reminder to everyone else:
You will only get out what you put in.
To expect plot to provide for you personally all of the roleplaying you'd ever want, well - that's just foolish. There's 80 people there, folks - and the eight people responsible for making the game as interesting as possible for those 80 have their hands /full/. Plot exists to help with the framework, not the meat - they make your world dynamic, they're not there to hold your hand and drag you through every possible permutation of what you can and can't do. Mind - I understand there are some fair gripes, and I'm not addressing those (leaving those to those who can speak more of them) - but I don't think it's any coincidence that I play a character who exists to give /others/ a good time wholly by his actions, and I had no objections for the event. :)
By the by - if anyone had one of Pyotr's readings who happens to be perusing these pages - drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell me if you enjoyed the experience? I'm not going to /stop/ doing it - but I didn't get my usual chance to talk with everyone and see if it was worthwhile RP this time - that's usually where I refine what I'm doing and try to make it better, so if you've suggestions for improvement, let me know. :)
All in all - if 5 is an average, fun event, 1 is one not worth attention, and 10 is the stuff of legend, I'd drop this one in at around an 8 - not for plot (about a 5 - I don't interact with Plot much as this particular character, not yet..) but for the people I encountered, the quality of the RP, and the memories made.
(remember - there's one girl out there worth 7 Dukes, 2 Counts, and A Baron, and Gypsies have a ritual that can protect you from Dragons for an hour...and if a certain gypsy proposes to you, don't accept - you'll end up with a child and vanish through a rift into another plane of existance...)

I'm curious. I've considered going balls to the wall and bringing Wren back again to see if there's anything I can salvage from that character. Would anyone like to see her back, or should I just stick with the MWE?
*waves* Hi, my name's Heather.. I'll be playing my first Nero event this weekend May 17-19, the Tyrangel campaign. As I was told by tangelred
this was the nero livejournal group, I was wondering if anyone would be nice enough to help answer a few questions I have. I've played Solar before, so its not like I dont' know how to larp, and I know that the systems are similar, but that they are also very different.( A few questionsCollapse )

One good thing about having a job, again.....
...is money! It looks like I will be able to make this weekend's ETN event! I missed the last one, and was miserable. But, I get my first full paycheck this Friday, so I think I will celebrate just a wee bit by going to ETN. Don't suppose anyone knows if they've filled in more events than what is listed on their schedule? A chance to PC again...can't wait! floon level rising... Current Mood: anxious

Assassin my ass
Can you believe it? if he was such a good assassin then the guy would have never posted that he was an assassin... stupid idiot... I only know a handful of people who can pull off the assassin thing and get away with it... Envy is not one of them... grrr...
Sorry for the rant about that you guys... just had to get it out of me system

Here's to Sainrith, a good friend lost....
My old character Dove, had the most contact with Sainrith, Sam's character from WAR. He was there for her during a rather difficult time she was having, dealing with her wayward son and his antics. Sainrith never said a word, just let her explode and collapse into tears, holding her hand the whole time...a good and gentle spirit, one who I am sure the currently living will miss greatly.
It sucks when a character you've invested a whole lot of time in dies, it really does. Everyone handles it differently. I wish I could post publicly on the boards exactly what I wrote above, but I cannot, my character's been dead since last September. So I guess I posted my feelings here so that they could still be seen...can't wait to see Sam's next incarnation, and I hope he continues playing and visiting Atlanta and ETN. *hugs*, my friend... I found my tail!
If you never knew me during my NERO years, then that doesn't mean anything to you, but if you ever knew me as Fryzbee, you know I'm referring to my 2 1/2 foot long grey and black striped furry raccoon tail that pinned to the back of my costume! I wore this tail from 1997 to 2000, over 3 full NERO seasons, until Fryzbee permed at the beginning of the tail's 4th season (my 5th season -- I didn't get the tail until I had been playing for a year) in 2000.
I thought I had thrown it away in the move, but as I'm going through things to change rooms, I found it tucked away with a Graduation Barbie (Class of '97) and a statue of two baby seals (present from my Grandfather, deceased). I was using it as packing material, apparantly!
Very happy for some reason. It called up very fun memories.
Poor dead Fryzbee, no one even did a spirit farewell for her. She really was my best character ever. Memorable.

Nobody's posted in here for a bit, so....
...and I'm bored, so here goes!
Just wanted all to know that one of the things that keeps me playing LARPs is the enthusiasm and excitement generated by the new players we get from time to time. I delight in hearing how things that the rest of us "old-timers" take for granted, become new and somewhat magical again when viewed for the first time by new players.
Last Tyrangel event, I was very disappointed in how some of the aforementioned "old-timers" treated everyone and everything around them, especially the new players. Players who had been bitching for a year or more were handed custom-made hooks leading into things they've been wanting to see, only to blow them off either due to ego issues or disinterest, sad!
Not so the new players! When the hooks came to them, they not only jumped at them with such energy, even when they realized they may be seriously outclassed, they refused to give up, even knowing the danger they were in. They not only rose to the occasion, they outclassed all of those who had passed it by with their elegance and bravery. Kudos to them all!
'Nuff said...I am currently busy working on some "aftermaths" of actions taken at the event, some may love it, most will hate it, but "thems the breaks", methinks. Current Mood: busy
